Samsung Jet S8003

Samsung´s latest mobile phone, the Samsung Jet S8003, is the latest full touch mobile phone to hit Malaysia. Breaking away from multi-touch zoom technology which requires the use of two fingers and two hands, the Samsung Jet S8003 instead has a ´one finger zoom,´ which enables one-hand operation to zoom in and out.

The phone also supports smartphone features such as multi-touch manager and Microsoft ActiveSync.

With an 800MHz Accelerated Application Processor, the Samsung Jet S8003 also has a 3.1" 16M WVGA AMOLED display that provides a resolution that is four times higher than a WQVGA screen and has a 180° viewing angle. It is also very efficient in its power consumption. With its WVGA AMOLED technology, the Samsung Jet S8003 consumes 40% less energy than a mobile phone equipped with TFT-LCD display.

Meanwhile, Samsung Jet S8003 comes with a new TouchWiz 2.0 user interface (UI), an upgrade from previous TouchWiz user interfaces, and includes iconic new features such as motion UI, smart unlock, customisable widget screen.

Additionally, Samsung´s Dolfin Internet browser is designed to let users surf the net and access popular websites, especially social networking sites. It comes with a built in ad-blocker, multiple downloading and background downloading feature, and multi-purpose address field.

Users can view up to five web pages simultaneously and bookmark their favourite websites as widgets on the phone´s homepage, while Dolfin´s unique one finger zoom enables users to zoom in and out of web pages using only one hand.

The mobile phone also includes a 5 mega-pixel camera, Wi-Fi, DNSe & SRS Sound Effect technology and DivX and XviD video support for hassle-free video downloading and viewing.

The Samsung Jet S8003 also features ´motion gate´, Samsung´s own motion recognition engine which brings you access to your multimedia favourites as well as speed dialling just by tapping, tilting or flipping the handset.

What you need to know

We like:
Good music player; on-board GPS; support for N-Gage gaming platform
We don't like:
Bulky and heavy; fiddly buttons
CNET UK judgement:
You have to admire the sheer range of features that the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic has to offer. But these features come at a cost, as the handset is very bulky and quite fiddly to use. For the price, we think there are much better devices on the market
Full review:
The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic aims to be the Andrew Flintoff of mobile phones. This all-rounder packs in music and gaming features, alongside a slide-out Qwerty keyboard and on-board GPS. You can pick it up SIM-free for around £270. It's also available for free on many £30-per-month contracts. Continue Reading...

Motorola Debut i856

  • Reviewed on: 09/18/2009
  • Released on: 09/02/2009

Product summary

The good: The Motorola Debut has a slim slider design, plus it comes with push-to-talk, GPS, a 1.3-megapixel camera, and a good music player. It also has very good call quality.

The bad: The Motorola Debut suffers from poor keypad design and a low-resolution display.

The bottom line: If you can live with a few design quirks, the Motorola Debut is a decent, basic, multimedia phone for Boost Mobile.

LG enV Touch

  • Reviewed on: 06/05/2009

Product summary

The good: The LG enV Touch has two beautiful displays, a nice touch-screen interface, and a great QWERTY keyboard. It has impressive features, such as a 3.2-megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. A, and a full HTML Web browser.

The bad: The LG enV Touch's touch-screen interface could use some refinement, and the Web browser experience is not as smooth as we would like. Visual Voice Mail and corporate e-mail support costs additional monthly fees. The lack of Wi-Fi is disappointing.

The bottom line: The LG enV Touch's combination of great design and top-notch features makes it one of the top Verizon Wireless Wireless phones we've ever seen.
